DATSUSARA - Hemp Gear

Here's a question,  Has anyone worked with hemp lately? I'm sure there are some soft goods designers out there. The reason I ask is because I study Muay Thai and was looking into gym bags and came across the Datsusara line of hemp gear. Their bags and gear are all made of hemp and to be honest, I didn't know hemp worked that way. I didn't know you could make t-shirts and high strength canvas out of hemp. The last time I came across hemp it was the scratchy straps of my reef sandals when I went through that awkward surfer phase.

Datsusara's stuff seems like a far shot from that material. I took a look at their site and found out that hemp is also antimicrobial and 4x stronger than conventional cotton. So why haven't I seen hemp around more frequently? If you're a person in the know, leave a comment below.

Here are some of their tactical styled bags that we dig. They have a Wayne Enterprises, R and D type feel. Great for spelunking.

The commercial production of Hemp was huge in the early 1800s, but this tied in with the push for the recreational use of marijuana. The government has not pushed off the reintroduction of hemp production, because they would be enabling an easy debate for those in favor of marijuana use. Hemp is a far better raw material than cotton, and should be used more readily to make more sustainable products.
