An open source 3D printed gun?

With the endless design potential of 3D printing, this technology is being controversially used by a group called “Defense Distributed” to fund a project in the hopes of coming up with a “wiki weapon.”  The goal of this project is to make it possible to print a gun with the use of any 3D printer and an open source file.  As mentioned in the article, this just blows the lid off of current controversy about gun regulation and freedom of information. This raises more questions than anything else, and places important social issues like gun regulation and freedom of information as conflicting viewpoints.  Should there be limits to what people can design or print?
